Lisa MacCabe makes Men’s T20 International Umpiring Debut

International Cricket Council (ICC) Development Umpire panellist Lisa McCabe will make her Men’s T20 International debut in the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier between Samoa and Fiji in Apia, Samoa.

McCabe hails from country Victoria and plied her umpiring trade in Bendigo before moving to Melbourne to stand in the Victorian Premier Cricket Competition. In 2017-18, McCabe was appointed to the CA Under 18 Female National Championships held in Ballarat and Bendigo, Victoria. The following season, McCabe officiated in the CA Under 15 Female National Championships and closed out the season with appointment to the men’s Third Grade Grand Final. Her season was recognised by the Victorian Cricket Association Umpires & Scorers’ Association by being named men’s Third Grade Umpire of the Year. In 2019-20, McCabe was appointed to the Victorian State & Territory Umpire Panel and made her WNCL debut in January 2020. Shortly after, McCabe achieved another milestone when she was appointed to her first men’s Premier First Grade match. McCabe’s busy 2019-20 also saw her officiate in the Under 18 Female National Championships in Tasmania. McCabe was appointed to the Final of that tournament.

The next two seasons saw a limited number of representative matches being played in Victoria due to the COVID pandemic. McCabe did manage to stand in the limited number of WNCL matches however it was in Victorian Premier Cricket that McCabe continued her development. McCabe was appointed to men’s First-Grade Finals panel and duly stood in the 2020-21 finals series. McCabe stood in the first of her Toyota Second XI four-day matches whilst continuing her CA commitments in the WNCL. McCabe then officiated International cricket for the first time when she was appointed to the Australia A versus England Lions women’s tour matches held in Adelaide. That series was held in parallel with the CommBank Women’s Ashes Series and saw several international players participate.

McCabe was invited to complete her Level 3 High Performance Officiating Accreditation prior to this season. McCabe officiated in the Weber WBBL for the first time in 2022-23. Off the field, McCabe contributes to cricket officiating, particularly female officiating, having co-founded a Women’s Match Officials Forum, a support network for female officials across Australia.

Last season, McCabe made her Women’s T20 International debut when Fiji played Samoa in Port Villa, Vanuatu as part of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup East Asia Pacific Regional Qualifiers. Earlier this year, McCabe was appointed as Fourth Umpire for the most recent Women’s Test Match between Australia and South Africa at the WACA Ground in Perth.
