December Community Umpires of the Month

Cricket Australia would like to congratulate the third cohort of Community Umpires of the Month recipients.

The Male Community Umpire of the Month has been awarded to Martin Blennerhassett of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association (VIC). Martin has been leading new initiatives for the BCA including making umpire training more accessible, promoting female umpire training and mentoring / observing his colleagues.

The Female Community Umpire of the Month has been awarded to Sue Gregory of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai & Hills District CA (NSW). While umpiring a junior match, Sue met a mother who was about to embark on her own umpire journey. Sue went out of her way to spend time talking to this mother about umpiring but also went above and beyond to follow up on how the first umpiring experience went!

The Multicultural Community Umpire of the Month has been awarded to Chakra Orampadu (NSW). Chakra has been brilliant in providing umpiring for the BCL with his phenomenal commitment. This is highlighted by continuously umpiring back-to-back-to-back T20 matches across multiple days.

Martin, Sue and Chakra will all be nominated for the Community Match Official of the Year. Congratulations to all three and thank you for your contributions to ensure cricket is played and enjoyed all over Australia.

January nominations are now open and if you know of an umpire who is contributing to their UA, association and/or community, you can nominate them by completing the nomination form here.
