Cricket Australia (CA) Contracted Umpire Panel member Troy Penman will stand in his debut Women’s T20 International when Australia play New Zealand at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, Queensland.
Penman's first began umpiring in 2010 joining the New South Wales Cricket Umpires & Scorers Association (NSWCUSA). Penman was appointed to Premier and Shires matches across Sydney over the coming seasons. Penman made his Sydney Premier First-Grade debut in January 2015 and has gone on to stand in over 150 Sydney Premier and Shires matches.
From 2016 through to 2019, Penman progressed through the CA Umpire pathway officiating at each major underage tournament. Penman was appointed to the Finals in each of those tournaments. Prior to the 2016/17 season, Penman was elevated to the NSW State Umpire Panel (STUP) and went on to debut in the WNCL and Second XI competitions. Leading into the 2017/18, Penman travelled to Brisbane to complete the invitation only CA High Performance Officiating program. In December 2017, Penman made his WBBL debut, then travelled to Melbourne to officiate two matches in the Under 19 One-Day International Series between Australia and Pakistan. In 2019, Penman was appointed on-field for the traditional Prime Minister’s XI match at Manuka Oval featuring the PM’s XI and the touring Sri Lankan side.
Prior to the 2019/20 season, Penman was elevated to the Cricket Australia Supplementary Umpire Panel for the first time. That season, Penman was appointed to the WNCL Final at North Sydney Oval. In 2020-21, Penman made his List-A debut in the One Day Cup match between New South Wales and Victoria at the North Sydney Oval. The following year, Penman made his KFC BBL Debut when the Perth Scorchers played the Sydney Sixers at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast. In February 2023, Penman made his First-Class Umpiring debut when Victoria hosted Queensland in their Sheffield Shield match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Last season, Penman was appointed Fourth Umpire in two Women’s One Day International matches between Australia and South Africa. Penman becomes the 41st Australian umpire to stand on-field in a Women’s T20 International match.
