Cricket Australia (CA) and International Cricket Council (ICC) Match Referee Kent Hannam has made his men’s One Day International Match Referee at an ICC Tri-Series event in Canada.
Hannam was recently appointed by the ICC to officiate in five ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League Two matches featuring hosts Canada, Nepal and Oman in King City. Hannam became just the 18th Australian Match Referee to officiate in a men’s One Day International. Hannam’s debut follows on from his men’s T20 International debut which took place in the recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Region Qualifiers in Samoa.
Hannam’s match officiating journey began when he joined the CA Match Officials team in 2015/16, appointed to officiate in CA competitions before being appointed to the inaugural Supplementary Match Referee Panel prior to the 2017/18 season. Hannam’s cricketing career featured multiple disciplines, firstly as a player, then a coach in the Victorian Premier Cricket ranks during the 1980’s, 90’s and 2000’s. Hannam also coached in the Victorian High-Performance system which featured roles with the Victorian Second XI and Victorian WNCL teams.
Hannam was appointed to the National Match Referee Panel prior to the 2020-21 season and made his KFC BBL debut that season when the Sydney Thunder played the Perth Scorchers at Manuka Oval. Hannam has gone on to officiate in 29 KFC BBL matches. Hannam made his List-A debut in early 2021 when Victoria played Tasmania at the Junction Oval St Kilda. Prior to these One Day International matches, Hannam had officiated in eight List-A matches. Hannam made his First-Class Match Referee debut in the same season when Western Australia played Victoria at the WACA Ground in Perth and has gone on to officiate in 11 First-Class Matches thus far.
Prior to the 2023-24 season, Hannam was appointed by the ICC to the International Panel of Match Referees. Hannam made his Women’s One Day International and Women’s T20 Internationals soon after in the series between Australia and the West Indies.
