KFC BBL Match Referee Debut for Joanne Broadbent

Cricket Australia (CA) National Match Referee Panel member Joanne Brodbent has made her KFC BBL Match Referee Debut in the BBL match between the Brisbane Heat and the Sydney Thunder at the Gabba in Brisbane.

Broadbent had a distinguished playing career for South Australia, Queensland and Australia playing 10 Test Matches and 60 One Day Internationals. Among her 60 ODI’s is the famous 1997 World Cup Final triumph over New Zealand in front of a massive crowd at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Broadbent was also the first Australian to score a Test match double hundred when she hit 200 against England in 1998.

Broadbent has also had an extensive coaching career in Australia and New Zealand and was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours for her service to cricket. On the domestic front, Broadbent played 76 WNCL/Australian Women’s Championship matches across her playing career.

Leading into this season, Broadbent was appointed to Cricket Australia’s National Match Referee Panel for the first time and went on to debut in this year’s WBBL competition officiating in a total of seven matches this season.

Broadbent became just the 16th Australian Match Referee to be appointed to officiate in the KFC Big Bash League.
