Cricket Australia Announces 2025/26 National Match Referee Panel

Cricket Australia has officially confirmed its National Match Referee Panel for the 2025/26 season, bringing together a diverse and experienced group of officials to oversee domestic and representative cricket across the country.

Cricket Australia is pleased to welcome former Australian international Xavier Doherty to the panel as a casual Match Referee. Doherty, who played four Test matches and 60 ODIs for Australia, also represented Tasmania in over 70 first-class fixtures. Since retiring in 2017, he has contributed to the game through coaching and commentary, while also pursuing a career in building.

“Xavier brings a wealth of cricketing insight and a calm, analytical approach to the role. His transition from player to official is a natural progression, and we’re thrilled to have him on board” said Luke O’Brien, Cricket Australia’s Match Officials Manager.

Joanne Broadbent, Sarah Elliott, and Janine Stainer continue their development through the Match Referee Talent Pathway Program, gaining valuable experience across different formats and competitions. “Joanne, Sarah, and Janine have shown tremendous growth and commitment and their presence on the panel only strengthens the future of officiating in Australia” O’Brien added.

Charlie Burke will continue to serve in Western Australia, while Steve Bernard will focus on the Indigenous and Inclusion Championships, reflecting Cricket Australia’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

“This is a wonderful panel that reflets the depth and breadth of cricket experience in this Australia,” said O’Brien. “Their work behind the scenes ensures the integrity and spirit of the game remains strong.”
