Cricket Australia (CA) Contracted Umpire Panel member Daryl Brigham has made his First-Class umpiring debut in the Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and Queensland at the Adelaide Oval.
Brigham commenced his Cricket Victoria umpiring career in the 2013-14 season when he was appointed to the Premier Umpire Panel. He debuted in the Victorian Premier Cricket First Grade and was appointed to the Second Grade Final that season. Prior to the 2015-16 season, Brigham was appointed to the Victorian State Umpire Panel for the first time and made his first appearances in the WNCL, WBBL and Toyota Second XI competitions that season. Brigham’s representative season was capped when he officiated in the Under 17 Male National Championships in Brisbane, which included appointment to the Final.
Brigham was appointed to the first of his four Under 19 Male National Championship tournaments in the 2016-17 season. His’s experience and performances at this level saw him appointed to the Semi-Final in the 2022-23 tournament. Brigham continued to be a top performer in his home state of Victoria where he was appointed to his first First-Grade Grand Final in the COVID-affected season of 2020-21. Brigham finished that season by being named Victorian Premier Cricket’s First XI umpire of the year winning the first of his three Jim Phillips Medals. He repeated those feats in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons displaying a consistent high level of officiating in Victoria.
Prior to the 2022-23 season, Brigham completed his Cricket Australia Level 3 – High Performance Officiating Accreditation at the invitation-only program held in Brisbane. And leading into to last season, he was elevated to the Cricket Australia Contracted Umpire Panel for the first time. During the 2024-25 season, Brigham joined Cricket Victoria’s prestigious ‘VCA 200 Club’ by officiating in a combined 200 First XI and CA representative matches.
As he walked out onto the Adelaide Oval, Brigham became the 128th First-Class umpire from Victoria. His on-field colleague for the match is fellow Contracted Umpire Panel member Ben Treloar with National Match Referee Panellist Simon Fry overseeing proceedings as Match Referee.
