Daryl Brigham Makes BBL Match Umpiring Debut

Cricket Australia Contracted Umpire Panel member Daryl Brigham made his KFC Big Bash League (BBL) umpiring debut the match between the Brisbane Heat and the Perth Scorchers at the Gabba.

Brigham is a former player with the Strathmore Cricket Club in Melbourne’s Suburban Turf competition. After transitioning to umpiring, Brigham began in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association (VTCA) before joining the Cricket Victoria umpiring program in the 2013–14 season. He quickly rose through the ranks, debuting in Victorian Premier Cricket First Grade and officiating the Second Grade Final that same year.

By the 2015–16 season, Brigham had earned a place on the Victorian State Umpire Panel, making his first appearances in the WNCL, WBBL, and Toyota Second XI competitions. His progression continued through Cricket Australia’s umpire pathway, where he officiated at major underage tournaments, including the Final of the Under 17 Male National Championships and a Semi-Final in the Under 19 Male National Championships.

Ahead of the 2022–23 season, Brigham completed the prestigious Cricket Australia Level 3 High Performance Officiating Accreditation, an invitation-only program in Brisbane. Last season, he was elevated to the Cricket Australia Contracted Umpire Panel.

In the lead-up to his BBL debut, Brigham has been appointed on-field to 49 WBBL matches—the third most by any umpire—alongside seven matches as TV Umpire. He was also appointed Fourth Umpire to the 2024–25 and 2025–26 WBBL Finals. This season has already marked significant milestones for Brigham, with his First-Class debut in the Sheffield Shield between South Australia and Queensland at the Adelaide Oval, followed less than a week later by his List-A debut in the One Day Cup at Karen Rolton Oval.

Brigham became the 36th Australian umpire and just the 10th from Victoria to stand in a BBL match.
