Cricket Australia Contracted Umpire Panel member Mike Graham Smith stood in his 100th KFC Big Bash League (BBL) match when the Sydney Sixers take on the Brisbane Heat in Coffs Harbour.
Graham-Smith’s achievement places him in elite company, becoming just the third umpire in BBL history—and only the fourth match official overall—to reach the century milestone.
Graham-Smith was first appointed to the Cricket Australia National Umpire Panel ahead of the 2012–13 season. He made his BBL debut during BBL03, standing in the clash between the Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers at Sydney Olympic Stadium.
He reached his 50-match milestone during BBL10, officiating at his home ground, Bellerive Oval, in a neutral venue match between the Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers played under COVID 19 restrictions.
Graham-Smith made his BBL Finals debut in BBL10, standing in both the Eliminator Final (Brisbane Heat v Adelaide Strikers) and the Knockout Final (Brisbane Heat v Sydney Thunder). He again featured in the Finals during BBL13, officiating the Qualifier Final between the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers on the Gold Coast.
On the international stage, Graham-Smith made his men’s T20 International debut at the ICC World Cup Qualifying event in Japan, officiating Indonesia v South Korea at Sano Cricket Ground. He later made his home T20I debut in February 2024 when Australia hosted the West Indies at Perth Stadium. He has now stood in three men’s T20 Internationals.
In addition to his on field appointments, Graham-Smith has served as TV Umpire in 33 BBL matches, including last season’s Knockout Final between the Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars.
