2025–26 Community Match Official of the Year

Cricket Australia is pleased to announce Kevin La Faber (Darwin & Districts Cricket Competition, Northern Territory) as the winner of the 2025–26 Community Match Official of the Year Award, recognising his outstanding service, leadership and people‑first approach to officiating across community cricket.

Award Winner: Kevin La Faber – Darwin & Districts Cricket Competition (NT)

Since commencing umpiring in the Top End in 2024, Kevin La Faber has quickly become a highly respected and vital contributor to cricket in the Northern Territory. In 2025, he stepped into senior umpiring roles across Premier and Social grades for both men’s and women’s cricket, earning selection on the A Grade Premier Umpire Panel.

Kevin consistently demonstrates excellence through fair, calm and consistent decision‑making, setting the tone for safe, respectful and enjoyable matches. His professionalism reinforces the Spirit of Cricket, while his approachable manner ensures players feel supported and valued—regardless of age, experience or level.

Drawing on a lifelong background as a player, Kevin brings deep empathy and understanding to his officiating. He views the role of a match official as more than rule enforcement; he actively teaches, guides and supports players, particularly those still developing their understanding of the game. His open communication and willingness to explain decisions help build confidence and contribute to an inclusive environment that is highly valued within the Darwin & Districts Cricket Competition.

Kevin is also a passionate mentor for fellow umpires. He actively encourages upskilling, professional development and fitness, sharing insights on game management, player communication and decision‑making. During a season of competition expansion, he consistently took time to support players and officials alike, helping participants of all backgrounds—including many new to the game—engage confidently and positively.

A standout aspect of Kevin’s contribution has been his strong advocacy for women in cricket. In 2025, his efforts were recognised with the inaugural Darwin & Districts Cricket Competition Women’s Umpire of the Year Award, an honour warmly endorsed by female players across the competition. This recognition reflects the safe, welcoming environment Kevin creates and the trust he has earned within the women’s game.

Across the Winter 2025 season, Kevin officiated 33 matches spanning junior, senior men’s and senior women’s competitions—demonstrating remarkable commitment and versatility. His leadership, humility and inclusive approach have made a lasting impact on players, fellow officials and the broader cricket community in Darwin.

Highly Commended: Christina D’Amato – Mackay Cricket Association (QLD)

The judging panel also extends high commendation to Christina D’Amato of the Mackay Cricket Association, Queensland, in recognition of her dedication and positive influence as a community match official.
