Cricket Australia (CA) thanks and congratulates Daryl Brigham on his umpiring contribution to Australian Cricket following his decision to step away from umpiring.
Brigham commenced his umpiring career in the 2013-14 season when he was appointed to the Victorian Premier Cricket Umpire Panel. He debuted in the Victorian Premier Cricket First Grade and was appointed to the Second Grade Final in his first year. Prior to the 2015-16 season, Brigham was appointed to the Victorian State & Territory Umpire Panel (STUP) for the first time. He made his first appearances in the WNCL, WBBL and Toyota Second XI competitions that season. Brigham’s representative season was capped when he officiated in the Under 17 Male National Championships in Brisbane, which included appointment to the Final. He was appointed to the first of his four Under 19 Male National Championship tournaments in the 2016-17 season. his experience and performances in this tournament saw him appointed to the Semi-Final in the 2022-23 competition.
Brigham continued to be a top performer in his home state of Victoria where he was appointed to his first First-Grade Grand Final in 2020-21, he has gone on to stand in four Victorian First-Grade Finals. Brigham finished the 2020-21 season by being named Victorian Premier Cricket’s First XI umpire of the year winning the Jim Phillips Medal. He repeated those feats in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons displaying a consistent high level of officiating in Victoria.
Brigham was elevated to the CA Contracted Umpire Panel prior to the 2024-25 season. He was appointed to the Women’s A-Series between Australia A and India A in Brisbane and was also appointed as Fourth Umpire to the Women’s T20 International Series between Australia and New Zealand. Brigham also stood in the WBBL and State Second XI competitions that season.
The 2025-26 season saw Brigham make three significant umpiring debuts. First, he was appointed to his debut First-Class match in the Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and Queensland at the Adelaide Oval. In doing so, he became the 128th Umpire from Victoria to stand in a First-Class match. Later that week, he stood in his first List-A match between the same two teams in the Dean Jones Trophy match at Karen Rolton Oval.
In December, Brigham completed a trifecta of Men’s domestic umpiring debuts when he stood on field in the remarkable KFC BBL match between the Brisbane Heat and the Perth Scorchers at the Gabba in Brisbane, with both sides scoring in excess of 250.
Brigham leaves the CA Contracted Umpire Panel with a significant Australian Cricket Umpiring career behind him. He stood in two First-Class, two List-A and two BBL matches. He also stood on field in 49 WBBL matches, the third most by any umpire. Brigham had a further seven appointments as TV Umpire in the WBBL and was the Fourth Umpire for the WBBL|10 Final between the Melbourne Renegades and Brisbane Heat. In his home state of Victoria, Brigham steps away as a decorated figure with four Jim Phillips Medals, four First Grade Grand Finals and a member of the prestigious Cricket Victoria ‘200 Club’.
