Former Australian Test Player and South Australian umpire Peter George has been elevated to Cricket Australia’s (CA) Contracted Umpire Panel.
A former fast bowler, George played one Test Match for Australia featuring in the second Test between India and Australia at Bengaluru in 2010. His first Test wicket was that of Sachin Tendulkar in India’s first innings. George’s First-Class and List-A playing career spanned a decade from 2008 representing both his native South Australia and Queensland. George played 68 First-Class and 22 List-A matches. George finished his representative playing career at the end of the 2018-19 season and soon began his officiating career.
Having moved back to Adelaide from Brisbane, George joined the South Australia Premier Cricket Umpire Panel for the 2021-22 season. He made his First-Grade debut in the same season before being appointed to his first representative matches the following season. George was appointed to the Under 17 Male National Championships held in Tasmania in the 2022-23 season which included appointment to the Final. He also made his first appearance as an umpire in the Toyota Second XI competition. George was elevated to the South Australia State Umpire Panel leading into the 2023-24 season. He debuted in the WNCL and Weber WBBL competitions that season and capped a busy representative season officiating in the CA Under 19 Male National Championships.
George was appointed to the inaugural WBBL Panel in 2024-25 which included officiating his first matches as a TV Umpire. He was again appointed to the CA Under 19 Male National Championships where he stood in the Final. At Premier level, George was appointed to both major First-Grade Grand Finals for the first time. During the 2025 off-season, he completed his Level 3 High Performance Umpire Accreditation at the invitation-only program in Brisbane.
George’s 2025-26 representative season saw him appointed to Weber WBBL, WNCL and Toyota Second XI matches. He was also appointed to the CA Under 19 Male National Championships for a third time where he stood in his second consecutive Final, this time at the WACA Ground in Perth. He finished the season standing in his second South Australia Premier First-Grade Grand Final. George joins the CA Contracted Umpire Panel with fellow South Australian representatives Eloise Sheridan and Drew Crozier.
